Transformation of a Figure Competitor – Week 10

Thursday, March 25th, 2010

A lot is going on with less than 4 weeks to go.  Some days I am tired and other days I am totally fine.  It depends on whether or not I teach class.  Even though I do not use heavy weight and just use my body weight for demonstrating purposes, my legs burn beyond belief.  Those are the days I wish for a power nap in the middle of the day.  With the increase of my cardio to a full hour and my weight training incorporated by plyometrics, some days I really have to dig in to get through it.

With all of the blood, sweat and tears comes passion, devotion and discipline to the sport. I absolutely love it.

My body fat percentage is floating around 9.5 % and with still a good few weeks to go, I can see myself really beginning to transform as I begin practicing more and more.  With my calorie burn at approximately 3300, it’s no wonder the body fat melts away.  This whole scientific journey amazes me every time.

I hosted my figure workshop this past Sunday and all of my girls not only had their brain pumped with much information on stage presence and prepping but a wonderful time as well.  They each walked away with a bit more confidence and that is all I can ask for.  This can be an overwhelming event but with good guidance, it will not feel so unknown.

In anything you do in life, practice is the key.  Going through the motions over and over will make one better and improve.  The more I practice with competing, I learn more every time.  With knowledge I get better and with my physique I get better.  With all of this comes great health, too.  The dotFIT supplements not only help you keep a healthy lifestyle but help you attain it as well.  As I have said in the past, vitamins and supplements help your body in the assistance it needs to perform and maintain.

On the topic of performance, my workouts are almost an event worth watching.  I have been throwing a heavy bag over my shoulder and running with it for 32 yds back and forth.  Or taking a 30 pound sledge hammer and slamming it for five rounds of 25 reps. Sounds good huh?  I really love it!  Let’s not leave out the squat thrusts or mountain climbers.  The list goes on and on and so when a day is completed it’s the best feeling of accomplishment that I could ever feel.  I have to thank Warren for that or should I say my personal Apollo Creed.  That’s what I have been calling him lately!

Transformation of a Figure Competitor – Week 9

Wednesday, March 17th, 2010

This past week has been crazy busy!  I’m only a week from having my figure workshop which will be very informative and exciting for my girls.  I have been practicing my posing and quarter turns along with doing sessions for my clients and getting them ready, too.  As the competition nears, it is better for me to make decisions about my poses as well as my clients’ poses as our bodies now begin to transform. Not everybody can present themselves in the same manner, so it’s up to me to distinguish which pose will fit each person and have them each look the very best.Jodi Braun, Figure Competitor

Not only is this the time where I assist in the presentation but the 6-week crunch is where I also assist in being their coach.  Everybody has got to put in their all as I intensify the workouts.  It’s a love/hate relationship my clients have with me but they know I have their best interests at heart.  At this point it is not easy to get through these times of training, but what you have to do is dig deep inside and pull everything you have out of you and put it into your training.  No time to slack off now.

I have begun my tanning sessions so I will have a nice base when it comes to applying the Jan Tana show tan.  Besides, lying in that bed a few times a week for just those 12 minutes feels so good.  Now that I begin to get a bit darker, my muscles become more defined and it aids me in my practice sessions to see how and which way I look my best.

My Sundays are spent mostly cooking approximately 10-12 pounds of chicken along with 8 – 10 pounds of sweet potatoes.  Luckily, I really like chicken considering I eat it 5 times a day.  I do enjoy dieting, having a schedule with the discipline and besides I love the way sweet potatoes smell as they bake in the oven. Yummy!  I try to get the bulk of cooking out of the way, this way my meals are prepped and ready to go.  It’s all about pre-planning your day’s food.  I don’t just prepare in this manner when getting ready to compete.  I prepare my meals like this all of the time.  It is a lifestyle and will keep you on track in eating healthy, portioned foods.  That’s what is so great about taking a dotFIT shake with me or a dotFIT protein bar/stick.  It’s convenient and healthy to take on the go and to throw in your bag. Plus it is a comfort to know that I don’t have to worry about my food.  It’s all there. I try to eat every 3 hours. So, if I go out I need to take my meals with me in case I am not back in the time I planned.

Cardio has increased to 55 minutes per day and I am progressing right on schedule. I have incorporated a lot of boot camp workouts to my routine 4 days per week on top of my weight training.  I change up my cardio between the stair mill, treadmill and the upright bike.  No worries this week and my percentage is 10.8 %.  I am doing everything as I am guided to do with all of my heart and soul.  Knowing I put all effort into my training, there are no regrets that I could have done something better.  Each time I grow as an athlete and as a confident woman.  What more could I ask for?

Transformation of a Figure Competitor – Week 8

Thursday, March 4th, 2010

Now less than 7 weeks to go, I feel as if time is passing too quickly and I’m running out of time.  I always do this to myself, the worrying I mean.  Warren is never worried but I worry enough for the both of us.

That’s where my feelings are right now.  I know I am doing everything that I am supposed to and we can only control so much.  The rest is up to the body to cooperate.  So, I just keep moving along, taking one day at a time and one moment at a time.  This is why I consider every competition prep a journey because every time there are differences that take place.  The way your body adjusts, diet, workouts and don’t forget the mental aspect that can really start playing with your head.  With all of this going on I push through and still have other girls that I’m helping get ready for the same show I’m preparing for.  Like I have said before, helping out these women and being able to see everyone’s personality’s shine through is very exciting and it keeps me motivated!

I know for them it’s good to be able to discuss different aspects of this whole prep with someone like me who understands all of the physical and emotional aspects that take place.  They can vent and I can provide feedback , trying to keep their worries from taking over.

Cardio has increased to 45 min per day and workouts are becoming more intense as well.  Not sure what you all imagine as intense but an example would be flipping a 200-pund tire over,  40 times!  Ha! My arms felt the intensity for 3 days after! lol All of the box jumping and leaping jump squats seem to be effecting the soreness in my hip flexors (wow!) but it’s all worth it in the end right? I know it is and this is why I like pushing myself to the limit.

It’s an adrenaline rush for me and I always feel awesome when the workout is complete.

I am eating chicken now 4 times per day but I don’t mind.  I really like chicken anyway and even in my off season, chicken and fish are staples in my regimen.  At 11.9 % body fat, I am still holding my weight at 130 lbs.  This is the longest I have been able to hold it this high.

I keep crossing my fingers it will remain there.

Just so you can see the level at which all can be inspired by, the picture included this week is of myself and client Janet Fox.  About to turn 64, this coming April will be her 2nd figure show she is getting ready for.  I am truly inspired by her and feel blessed that I can train and prepare her once again.  She is also part of the dotFIT nutrition regimen with Warren’s expertise.
